Annual State Curling Bonspiel 2008
Well it was this time again. Our council on February 29 - March 2nd, 2008 sent a rink consisting of Knights Archie Deridder, Mark Yaremko, Robert Ben and future Knight Tony Jardine. It was the first time they ever competed as a team. They were competing for the largest draw the Pinta Flight, they competed against 30 teams They enjoyed great early success winning their game all the way to the Semi Finals. Once they got to the semi finals they fell behind early, behind by 4, but they fought bravely back to steal the 7th and 8th ends to tie the match and send it to extra ends. Due to time restraints they decided the match by each skip taking one shot to the button. Unfortunately the lost the shot by inches and were defeated by a very competitive Aldershot team. The Pinta flight was finally won by the Barrie Council # 1626. It was heard that the rinks ultimate goal was to compete against Harry Connell from Barrie (Harry from Barrie). This year it was not in the stars but next Annual Event maybe they will prevail to compete against the heralded Barrie Rink. It was Bradford's best showing since 1967 where the Bradford Council # 4915 prevailed over everyone that year. Rocco Colangelo was one of those team members who did Bradford proud and brought the championship to Bradford. Do you enjoy curling and other sports? If so consider joining the Knights of Columbus and compete for us, for Bradford, and bring back some championships for us ! To become a Knight contact our Membership Director and start your journey to comradeship, for community, your journey to faith. If you already are a Knight of Columbus and wish to join the curling teams contact our Program director.
